Is your glass cleaner blue?
Why?
Do you actually know why it's blue?
Do you know what other ingredients are in your glass cleaner?
Here are the reasons your glass cleaning spray may be blue:
Ingredients in some blue coloured glass cleaners are toxic and/or corrosive to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract... Did you read that? (Don't take our word for it, go and have a look for yourself!) A product intended for spraying and likely to be inhaled and touched is probably going to be harmful to those using it. And yet many people are still using a blue glass cleaning spray - or any store bought cleaning spray, full of harmful ingredients and fragrances.
Why?
Is it the repetitive message that this is the only way you will get a streak free window that makes people believe they need this product?
Is it the belief that these products that have been around for so many years must be safe?
Is it that we have been led to believe that the only way to clean properly is by using chemicals?
It is probably a combination of all 3 and more.
An extremely effective glass cleaner can very simply be made with:
Equal parts filtered water and vinegar in a 300ml glass spray bottle.
You can add some essential oils like lemon and peppermint if you want some added cleaning power and a nice aroma (that won't harm you!).
That is it!
A homemade glass cleaner is extremely effective and you have absolutely no need to bring another product into your home. Why use something that includes ingredients that are super long, hard to pronounce and harmful to your health and the environment, when it just isn't necessary?
Also, you don't need colours in your home-made glass cleaner to warn you about it being a possibly harmful product because you could drink this with no adverse effects, if you really want to.
PS - when you make your own glass cleaner that is safe, the kids can clean the windows for you. Winning!!!
Give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised with the results.
